How do I determine if I should register as a Group or an Individual?

  •       If you will go only if you and specific other people are accepted in the lottery, then you should sign up everyone with the same group. If the lottery picks one person in a group, then everyone in that same group is picked. In 2005, RAGBRAI had too many applications (600 over the limit) and had to turn away riders not selected in the lottery. The odds of getting selected in the lottery are very high, but certainly not 100%.

  •       Sign up as a group to be able to apply for a vehicle pass. Anyone who wishes to bring a vehicle must be in a group. If you will be bringing a vehicle and a driver or family or friends who will not be riding a bicycle, then you have to sign up as a GROUP. The system has been set up so the only ones who can apply to be Non-riders or apply for vehicle passes must be in a GROUP. If the driver of the vehicle is not registered as a member of the group, the request for a vehicle pass will be rejected.

  •       If there are just two of you riding bikes, and you will be paying separately and you will take your chances with the lottery, you may register as individuals.

  •       If there are two of you and you wish to pay with one check or one credit card payment, then you have to register as a group.

I have ridden RAGBRAI before, but I can’t find my name.

Use no punctuation or spaces, for example, look up O’Brien as Obrien. Look up
Van Young, as VanYoung. If you still cannot find it, that is ok, just go back to the Welcome page, and click on NO, when it asks if you have ever registered for RAGBRAI before. All this means is that you will have to do your own data entry of your name and address, instead of having the database bring it in for you.

I am an Individual rider and paid, but my wife is driving our car.  I was told that if I wanted to bring a vehicle and a driver, I had to be signed up as a group what do I do now?

If you will be bringing a vehicle and a driver or family or friends who will not be riding a bicycle, then you have to sign up as a GROUP. The system has been set up so the only ones who can apply to be Non-riders or apply for vehicle passes must be the Group Contact. If the driver of the vehicle is not registered as a member of the group, the request for a vehicle pass will be rejected.

If you entered as an Individual, but now need to change to a group, go back to the Welcome page, create a group, click NO when it asks if you have registered. The new registration will overwrite the former registration.

I am signed up with a Group, but I want to pay by credit card online. How do I do that?

Sorry, you can only pay online by credit card if you are an Individual rider, or if you are the Group Contact. Everyone in the Group has to send their waiver and their payment to the Group Contact. If you send a check to your Group Contact, do not make it out to RAGBRAI, because we can only accept one check as payment for the whole group.

I registered online
. Is that all I need to do?

No, once you have completed the online registration you must sign and mail us your Waiver of Liability.  Due to legal issues, best practices continue to dictate that a RAGBRAI Waiver of Liability must be completed by hand and a signed original must be received before your application can be considered complete. We hope you can understand our necessity to continue to ask for an original signed waiver. As the law on reliability of electronic signatures becomes more clear, we will revisit this issue.

Remember, you have not completed the registration process. Your application, waiver and payment must be received by the RAGBRAI office with a postmark date no later than April 1.

What if I should have signed up with my group, but made a mistake and signed up as an Individual? Can you link my registration to the group?

  1. If you already paid and sent your waiver to the RAGBRAI Office, there is nothing we can do to link you.

  2. If your group has already paid and checked out the group registration, again there is nothing we can do to link you. But remember you can still ride with your group during RAGBRAI; nothing prevents you from doing that.

  3. If you have not paid and your group has not checked out yet, go back to the Welcome page and click NO when it asks if you have ever registered for RAGBRAI before. The new registration will overwrite the former registration.

What if my address has changed or I made a mistake and want to order a jersey now? The online registration will not let me back in to make a change. What do I do?

As long as you have not yet sent your payment, you can go back to the Welcome page, click NO when it asks if you have registered for RAGBRAI before, your new registration will overwrite the former registration.

I really messed up my application; can I go back in and start over? I don’t want to create a duplicate and get my team in trouble.

If you want to make changes, and have not yet paid or checked out of the system, then go back to the Welcome page and when it asks you if you have registered for RAGBRAI before, click NO. This will cause any new registration to overwrite any previous registrations for you. It will not be entered as a duplicate.

My name has changed, how do I reflect that on my online registration?

As long as you have not yet sent your payment, you can go back to the Welcome page, click NO when it asks if you have registered for RAGBRAI before and register with your legal name. If you have already sent your payment, please e-mail info@ragbrai.org with the changes.

How do I know if you got my online application?

There are about three ways to know.

  •       At the end of the online process, if you did everything correctly you will get a confirmation page with your unique ID number on it telling you that you have filled out the application.

  •       If you gave an e-mail address, within an hour or so, you should receive an e-mail confirmation that says your online application and/or you have chose to pay by credit card online and that your application is not complete until your application, waiver and payment have all reached our office. Remember, no credit card is charged until we are in receipt of all three items. If you signed up with a group, your Group Contact will get a copy of the e-mail also. RAGBRAI does not sell e-mail lists or use e-mail addresses for any other purpose than RAGBRAI registration and correspondence, so please provide an e-mail address. It will make life easier for us to alert you if there is a problem with your registration.

  •       If you signed up with a group, then your Group Contact can go into the Group Status report and check it out for you.

  •       If something is not complete when RAGBRAI receives your waiver and payment, you will be contacted.

  •       If all else fails, you may e-mail info@ragbrai.org.

My printer locked up and I did not get to print out my confirmation page or my Unique ID number. How can I get a copy of that?

  •       Sorry, once the application is submitted, you cannot go back. This is why it is extremely advisable to provide an e-mail address because a confirmation with your unique ID will be automatically emailed to you.

  •       If you signed up with a group, then your Group Contact can go into the Group Status report and check it out for you.

I created a new group and entered myself as the Group Contact. Does this mean I am a registered participant?

NO!  After you create a group, you will be taken back to the registration start page where you need to register.

Groups must be activated.

The group contact activates the group with his/her registration.  This insures that the contact will receive all confirmation e-mails if the registrant provides an e-mail address.

I am the Group Contact and some of my team are telling me that they registered with my group online, but I never received any confirmation e-mails. I thought I was supposed to.

  •       If you are the Group Contact, you will only receive a confirmation of the registration by e-mail if the person who registered provided an e-mail address. The Group Contact is only a cc on the registrant’s confirmation e-mail, so if there is no e-mail address for the registrant, the Contact will not receive one either.

  •       Only if the e-mail address was entered correctly.

  •       Sometimes an e-mail may not go through because of server, filters, spam protectors or ISP problems.

Someone I do not know signed up with my group. How do I make sure that he does not get included with our group?

We hope you would have the courtesy to contact him and let him know you will not be able to include him this year, so that he will still have the opportunity to register either as an Individual or find another group. To make the totals of your Group Status report come out correctly without including him, you will need to contact info@ragbrai.org to delete him off of your list.

How am I supposed to know who is signing up with my group if they don’t provide an e-mail address so I get a confirmation?

  •       Go back to the Welcome page for online registration and scroll down the page until you see a box that reads, “For Group Contacts only.”  Click on it.

  •       The Group Status report gives you names and totals for everyone who has signed up so far as part of your group.

  •       The report is updated every hour; so you may have to wait an hour or so to see any additions or changes in the report.

  •       That is the same section where you will check out your group. You can pay for the group costs online by credit card or indicate that you will be mailing one check to RAGBRAI, along with the waivers for the group members.

My team and I registered online, but I cannot find where I am supposed to apply for a vehicle pass.

  •       Go back to the Welcome page for online registration and scroll down the page until you see a box that says, “For Group Contacts only.”

  •       Click on Apply for vehicle passes.

  •       The Group Contact is the only one who can apply for a vehicle pass or view any of the reports in this section.

  •       Remember the driver of your vehicle must be a registered member of your group or the vehicle request will be rejected.

  •       You are limited to no more than three vehicle passes.

  •       Be sure to sign up for your vehicle(s) at one time, you will not be allowed to go back to the Vehicle section to make changes.

I registered my team and I signed up as the Group Contact, but it never asked me about payment, what do I do?

  •       Go back to the Welcome page for online registration and scroll down the page until you see a box that reads, “For Group Contacts only.”  Click on it.

  •       The Group Status report gives you names and totals for everyone who has signed up so far as part of your group. Print the status report once you have checked out your group and include it with the waivers to mail.  Next to the payment total will be a button marked "Check Out."

  •       Then you will select your payment option. You may pay online or send one check for the total costs of the group.

Waiver or application will not print. What happened?

  •       Printing either of these requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have the program, there is a place to download it free. If it still will not print with Acrobat, then it can be a hardware problem, most often the printer.

  •       The waiver and the application pages have been tested to print on a number of computers and printers, but we are not able to make sure that it will print on every person’s computer.

  •       If your computer/printer has printed it before, then it’s likely a temporary glitch that can be corrected often by simply shutting down and restarting.

  •       We will be happy to mail you a waiver if you will provide us with a mailing address.
